Bach and Italy: reception, interpretation, theology

Chiara Bertoglio's PhD thesis (Music Performance Practice, University of Birmingham 2012) focused on the Italian instructive editions of J. S. Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier and on their documental value for tracing the history of performance practice. Later, the scope of her research was broadened to include the study of Bach reception in Italy through transcription and arrangements; this led to numerous scholarly publications (for example on Understanding BachMusica/Realtà etc.) and to an ongoing recording project (published by Da Vinci Classics) about "Bach&Italy" (vol. 1, 2018; vol. 2, 2019).

Moreover, Chiara Bertoglio studies the theological aspects of Bach's music, particularly as concerns confessional and ecumenical aspects (e.g. in a paper published on Pro Ecclesia).

Finally, in her capacity as vice-president of the Coro Maghini of Turin, Chiara Bertoglio participates in the organization of the international Festival BackTOBach.
